Counselors Not Helping All Teens

Many high schools now have full-time counselors. Many teens are also seeing private therapists. Certainly many teens are being helped each day, but there are also many who are not being helped. Teens write to us at EQI.org when they are not getting the help they need locally.

We want to raise the public awareness of why some teens are not being helped. When I first began helping teens only around 1998

I remember one teen named Brandy in California telling me years ago that her counselor promised not to tell her parents things, but before she got home to school the counselor already had called them and betrayed her trust.

Steve: Has your therapist been much help?

Teen: Not really, no. After every session she talks to my mother privately and I've just kind of learnt to keep my mouth shut incase it got back to her.
