LLC Teen Suicide Prevention
Work Exchange Program in Montenegro

Introduction

Teen suicide is a serious problem that needs more focused attention. The public is often either uninformed or misinformed about teen depression, self-harm and suicide. The result is that teens are not receiving the help they need. This special work exchange program has been designed to help fill this need.

From extensive work with depressed, suicidal, self-harming teens, several conclusions can be made:

  • There is nothing genetically wrong with these teenagers.
  • They do not have chemical imbalances in the brain, as many people currently believe.
  • They are highly intelligent, both in IQ and EQ.
  • They are highly sensitive. They care about other people.
  • They live in invalidating homes and go to emotionally unsupportive schools.
  • Their depression, self-harming and suicide attempts are a direct result of their emotionally abusive environments.
  • Teen suicide can therefore be prevented by changing their living environments.
  • More suicides can be prevented by listening to teens, providing emotional support and helping change their environments than through putting them on medication.

This program takes all of these findings into consideration and offers much-needed help to young people which they can not find anywhere else
