A List of Ways Schools Are Unatural

In many schools you get punished for doing the following natural things:

- Talking to your friends

helping your friends

hugging your friends

protecting your friends

supporting your friends

co-operating (During tests, this is called cheating, but it could also be called cooperating)

laughing when something is funny

trying to stop the pain of boredom

taking a break or resting when your body feels the need to

sleeping when it's dark out, when nature wants you to be asleep

We could summarize by saying in many schools, children and teenagers are being punished for simply reacting naturally to their environemnt.

Below is something from my documentary on education in Peru:

Here is a little girl, in her mandatory school uniform, sleeping in the back of school van. It is about 6:30 in the morning. Nature wants her to sleep, but her parents and the teachers want her to be at school. To be fair, I have to say that it is not only in Peru that parents force children, and teenagers, to wake up and go to buildings called schools. In many countries, in fact, during the winter months it is still dark out when they arrive.

In many schools...

- The teachers can't hug the students

you can't follow your instincts to leave a frightening situation, to get away from fear, avoid fear
