May I see your passport?

When I first got to this hotel, the first thing the person who met me at the door said was, "May I have your passport?" He might have realized this was a bit robotic, so as he turned and walked towards the reception desk he added, "How are you?" I said "Tired." It was about midnight, by the way. I actually was also stressed because I had a bad flight and I had almost lost my wallet with all my money and credit cards. I would have appreciated the chance to tell someone.

But he didn't respond to what I said at all. Instead, the next thing he said was related to questions he needed to fill out his registration form, which I assume is required by the Turkish government. He asked questions like "Where are you coming from? How long will you stay in Antalya? Where will you go next?"

This reminds me of another time in an airport in Miami when someone asked me "How are you?" I said something like "Very sleepy" and the next thing she said, without looking at me, was, "May I see your passport?"

I don't know about you, but this is not how I want to be treated as a customer or as a human being.
